No overexploitation of forests for a wrong energy turnaround
Statement of German NGOs on forest bioenergy Download the statement as pdf Forests are irreplaceable for the protection of biodiversity and our climate, they are the basis of life for humans, animals and plants. Nevertheless, global forest ecosystems are under threat. There are many reasons for this – from illegal logging to the expansion of agricultural land and high raw material requirements of the pulp and paper industry. As a result, forests are being cut down, overused or converted into monoculture timber plantations. Now the forests are coming under additional pressure in the name of climate protection.
